Welcome to 2012 and another year of interesting reading!
We discussed a lot of options for our year's selection and below is a list of books which we have chosen for our group discussions :
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
The Hare with Amber Eyes by Edmond De Waal
Seven Days In The Art World by Sarah Thornton
All That I Am by Anna Funder
Please Don't Make Me Go by John Fenton
Inheritance by Nicholas Shakespeare
Books which we also considered were :
The Shelly Beach Writers' Group by June Loves
The Happiest Refugee by Anh Do
Solar by Ian McEwan
The Best American Non Required Reading edited by Dave Eggers
A Visit from the Good Squad by Jennifer Egan
Our first meeting will be at Sharon's on March 29th Thursday and the book will be The Help by Kathryn Stockett.
See you then!
Hi Sharon,
ReplyDeleteNice blog. I have not read any of the books on your list for this year, but your synopses may help me to select some. I have, however, read two on your reject list. Solar is a terrific book, not an environmental tirade, but a really interesting character study. I am currently reading the 'goon squad', which I find quite boring. The plot is pretty silly so far.
Keep it going,
Cheers,
Thomas
Hi Thomas--thanks for your recommendation of Solar. We just had a meeting on The Help last night. Will be updating our blog with our comments on that book!
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
By the way, there is one scene in the Tube from Heathrow to the city, which is one of the most hilarious scenes I have ever read. Just worth reading it for that alone.
